Is Dermaplaning shaving your face?

Dermaplaning at Atelier Salon

This is a common myth of Dermaplaning but rest assured it is not shaving your face and is so much more than removing the vellus hair (peach fuzz) from your skin.

Dermaplaning is a deep exfoliating treatment on the face. It removes four layers of dead skin cells, leaving it luminous. It is great for so many skin conditions such as acne, scaring, dry skin and pigmentation.

By removing these layers of skin all the expensive serums and moisturisers you have sitting on your bathroom shelves will sink much deeper into the skin, rather than sit on the surface, enabling them to work to their full potential. It also helps your make-up sit beautifully on the skin for a more natural, flawless look.

Dermaplaning is also a great way of prepping the skin for skin peels and light treatments. We recommend every 3-4 weeks. Of course the most important thing to remember is you must protect your skin every day and use an SPF to protect your face from sun damage.

When performing the treatment we use a sterile surgical scalpel and use small movements to remove the skin and hair. It is not painful and your skin will not feel red or sore after. You get instant results, which is why we love it so much. And don’t fret; you won’t get stubble when the fine hairs grow back.

This treatment is great if you’re pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the risk of harsh chemicals absorbing into the blood stream and potentially harming your baby.
